OUR CHAPEL OF THE MEETING OF THE LORD IN THE TEMPLE

The Chapel of the Meeting of the Lord in the Temple is a labour of love of Mr Costa Revelas and his family. The building of our Chapel was an answer to the prayers of many and to the liturgical and spiritual needs of our School Community. Within a small period of time it was built and adorned and, in February of 1998, it was consecrated by the late Patriarch Petros VII of blessed memory. The Church initially served the needs of the pupils and staff of the school. Priests were appointed to celebrate Divine Liturgy on week days. Weddings and Baptisms were restricted to those persons that had an immediate relation to the School (old pupils, teachers etc).

After many prayers and appeals, on the 15th of May, 2005, our Chapel began a new Chapter in its functioning. With the blessings of our Patriarch of Alexandria and All Africa, Theodoros II, and the agreement of Metropolitan Seraphim of Johannesburg and Pretoria, our Church was opened to all. It began to function properly and to serve the needs of all these wishing to worship there. Father Petros Parginos, locally – born and an old pupil of the School, was appointed School Chaplain and permanent priest of our Chapel. Our Patriarch also determined the English should be the main medium of worship. In this way the needs of the youth and countless English speaking Orthodox could be served.

Our Chapel has become the spiritual haven of the Orthodox in the area. Both adults and youth alike find their sustenance there. The school has been enriched by an Orthodox ecclesiastical ethos. At this time of confusing ideologies and media onslaught, the proclamation of the Gospel and a living relationship with the Risen Lord though the Sacramental life of the Church, is a vital necessity for our children.

A book-shop functions next to our Chapel. Many English and Greek books of a spiritual nature are available for purchase. The Chapel also hosts Wednesday evening classes of Catechism and Adult religious studies.
